HONORS PROGRAM for YOUNG PIANISTS

The Honors Program is a three-tiered event for young pianists age 7 through High School. The first event is a competitive Audition for
four different age groups at the Greenwich House Music School. Judges award cash prizes and select students to perform at the Winners Recital. Students who are chosen for
the Winners Recital will perform at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. There, a Certificate of Honor will be presented to each
Winners Recital performer. In addition, four students are selected to perform in a Masterclass. This year’s Masterclass will be led by renowned
pianist, composer, author and master teacher Seymour Bernstein.

Auditions:
April 28 2012 (Groups I & II) – Greenwich House Music School
April 29 2012 (Groups III & IV) – Greenwich House Music School
Masterclass:
May 12 2012 6-8pm with Seymour Bernstein – Greenwich House
Winners Recital:
May 19 2012 at 1:30pm – Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall

(* HS Freshmen 13 years old on audition date should enroll in Group II)
RULES
- PTC members in good standing may submit up to six (6) students.
- Age groups are determined by the age of the performer on the date of the Audition.
- Performers will be selected for the Masterclass on the basis of their repertoire and performance level.
- Prizes and awards are determined at the Audition and are presented at the conclusion of the Winners Recital.
- Entrants are eligible to receive more than one award, but may receive each award one time only. Please note that judges may give
non-winning entrants the opportunity to play at the Winners Recital. In addition to the awards, a Certificate of Participation will
be presented to each Winners Recital performer.
- Each Winners Recital performer is expected to mail a check for $80 (payable to The Piano Teachers Congress of New York, Inc.)
to: GRACE GUO, 1641 3RD AVENUE, APT. 23J, NEW YORK NY 10128. In return, each winner will receive four (4) tickets to the Winners Recital.
Additional tickets are available at $20 each through the Carnegie Hall Box Office.
- All decisions by the judges are final.

OTHER AWARDS
In addition to Honorable Mentions, participants are also eligible for the following awards,
at the discretion of the judges:
Groups I&II (combined) and Groups III&IV (combined)
Regina Rubinoff Twentieth Century American Composer Award for the best performance of a piece by a 20th or 21st century American composer - $100
Groups I&II (combined)
Hazel Ghazarian Skaggs Young Artist Award - $150
Dorothy and Sidney Morrow Award for the best performance of a Baroque composer - $75
Groups III&IV (combined)
Pauline Styler Memorial Scholarship Award - $200
Regina Rubinoff Contemporary Music Award for the best performance of a piece by a living composer - $100
REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum performance level comparable to J.S. Bach’s Inventions or Short Preludes.
- Either two contrasting compositions or one of length.
- A suite or group of miniatures will NOT be accepted.
- A movement of a Sonatina or Sonata is considered one composition.
- All pieces must be memorized.
- At least one copy of the music, on which the names of neither the teacher nor the student appear, must be made available to the Judges
at the Audition. Photocopied scores will NOT be accepted.
- The maximum playing time allowed is 10 minutes.
- No composition will be selected for performance unless it has been auditioned in its entirety.
TIMINGS
All compositions must be timed by the teacher.
We reserve the right to interrupt performances that go beyond the 10 minute limit.
ADJUDICATORS COMMENTS AND DECISIONS
These will be mailed to the participating teachers following the auditions.
APPLICATIONS and DEADLINES
All applications must be postmarked by Thursday, April 5, 2012 and mailed along with a check for $90 per entrant
(made payable to The Piano Teachers Congress of New York, Inc.) and a stamped envelope with the address of the applicant’s teacher
and
a copy of the applicant’s passport or birth certificate to:
